This lakefront home in Lake Waccamaw had a worn 3-tab shingle roof with torn tabs, raised nails, old dome skylights and a cracked chimney crown.
We rebuilt the upper dormer with new wood siding and three new Ply Gem windows, flashed with window wrap tape, then re-roofed the house over synthetic underlayment in grey architectural shingles, with new metal flashing and a new crown at the chimney.

Lake Waccamaw Roof Replacement: What We Found and What We Changed
Our photos from before the work show the state of the old roof. Many of the 3-tab shingles had come unsealed and buckled, and lifting a tab showed a nail backing out underneath. Plumbing vent boots were cracked or rusted. Where the roof meets the walls, at the clerestory windows and at a glass door that opens onto the roof, the metal flashing had worked loose, and the wood threshold under that door had rotted.
For the new roof, the deck went down to SecureGrip 25 synthetic underlayment, held with plastic cap nails. The chimney base got new metal flashing over that underlayment, and the rebuilt dormer got a new soffit vent to go with its new siding and windows.
The finished roof looks out over the lake, the pier and the boathouse. We have also built a detached garage in Lake Waccamaw, and our roof replacement page covers how a full reroof runs.
